Various varieties of apples are used to make New York Apple Whiskey, from the well-known Golden Delicious to the rare Macoun. After selecting very ripe apples, the juice is carefully extracted from them. Further, the whiskey is blended with juice and aged in bourbon barrels.
The casks give the drink notes of raisins and vanilla. Notes of sweet and sour apples balance well with toasted oak. It is good to drink neat with ice, and also to use as a base for Manhattan.
