This whiskey is aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The barrels are produced in the south of Spain according to our specifications. When the sherry is ready, the barrels are emptied and sent to the distillery. The extracts from the cask give The Glenrothes whiskey not only sweetness and sherry notes, but also reduce the tannins inherent in the new oak.
In the case of American oak, the dominant characteristics are notes of coconut and vanilla, and in the case of Spanish oak, resin and spices are the dominant characteristics.
